Just before my last Birthday, a few days ago, I set off to the strip, on the first really cold day of the year.
On arrival, I checked the hangers' temperature and discovered it was a chilly 4C. Now was the time to fit the front 'Blanking' plate over the 'mouth' of the Luscombe to raise the engine temperature and in turn, the oil tempeature by around 10C.
All done, I then flew to a couple of local airfields, at one I practiced the 'Spitfire' style turns onto finals, my favorite type of approach, a display practice and several glide approaches. I noticed a significant improvement in overall engine and propeller performance in this cold weather, felt like another 2HP!! My oil temperature needle gauge had also nudged up a 'tad' too.
Acouple of practice engine failures on the way home and that concluded another enjoyable time on Brug.
Now back on leave, so hoping to get up to a little more mischief over the next few days!
